Baby Girl

So you're finally a mother. You fell in love, married, maybe not to the love you'd intended, but a better one. And together you've found the perfect home to raise your children, and then wham, just like that you discover that you're pregnant. And to top that off-- that you're pregnant with a baby girl. Whoo Whoo. All your dreams are coming true. Just the way you'd planned.

Now you've delivered your new bundle of joy.

The screaming's over. The joy of the Epidural is long gone, along with your Romeo, your mighty man, your partner in crime, your King; who'd vowed to love you forever, who'd never actually belonged on the thrown in your castle anyway, but you're okay with your mistake because you still had, just what you'd always wanted.

 Your baby girl.

Years roll by. They come and go, and you withstand the storm, the waves no matter how high because you're a woman, a single queen without your king, of course, but you're still okay because you've got just what you'd always wanted.

Your baby girl.

Well, being a single mom's been rough. But you're strong, and you seem to have this mother, daughter thing down pretty darn good. You say no to most of the ridiculous, teen endeavors your now thirteen-year-old daughter who suddenly thinks that you hate her for, no differently than you'd said no to them a thousand times in the past, but it's all okay because you were given, just what you always wanted. Your baby girl.

Now you're precious daughter's sixteen, and those simple little meaningless conflicts are now full combat, bomb droppers, and all you want is to retreat back to the way it was: the fun, the good-old days, those 'remember when days. But it hasn't and she won't because she's you at sixteen, saying all the things you'd wanted to say to your mother but would never because you'd had just too much respect for your parent. Now your confused trying to find your roll in your child's life as to who's the mom and who's the child here.

You breathe in and you count to ten as you were taught during those secret visits to your life coach that those hand-picked full of friend's of yours may consider nothing more than a practical joker... but you'd needed this, so who cares about what they think. Besides, what you'd taken away from this life training has been working this far, so too each his own.

Only, now, everything you'd been coursed into believing is regrettably falling apart right in front of you and you're starting to wonder...who's child from hell does this kid belong too?

However, you are a woman so you push on, you continue your unconditional love for your ungrateful, disrespectful although beautiful child, and in the end. Your little girl grows up...and
you do a bit of growing up too. So you breath again. Yah... that life coach wasn't for not after all, and you smile because you'd gotten just what you'd always wanted.

Your Baby Girl

Greener Pastures

No Place Like My Own

A pair of beautiful glass slippers. A young girl's dream; her escape to that perfect place, that magical place away from home.
Isn't that the way the story went?

Well, I was once that girl with a dream of leaving home, and being on my own; doing things different than my mother. At the time, I had created a wall between her and me. She'd become the wicked witch in my mind. And I had to get away; show her how mothering supposed to be done.

But I would do it right as I was the last of the Babyboomers, the generation that still respected their elders and didn't throw sass.

I valued my mother's opinions and advice. However, I was gonna raise my children different. I was gonna show her what a great mom looked like. Yes. I was going to rise above all mothers. I would grasp the stars with my bare hands, care for them until they shined brighter, and then toss them back, one by one; out into the universe my way. My children, from birth, would think the world of me and I'd be the mom of moms, the mother of the year; and all the years after that.
Well, nope. Didn't happen that way. I had, unfortunately, missed a whole lot of in-betweens on balance as a dutiful daughter, a wise grown-up, or matured mother.
I had left home with no idea what I was doing and with no clue where any of those mind blowing stars would go now that I'd snatched them down. I didn't even know why I'd touched them in the first place... I mean what my reasoning was? They were perfect just the way they were.
The truth was...I was lost.
I was out there in this great big scary world with a husband and no idea of what I was doing. At the time, I didn't even know that I was lost or that living my life could be better. I mean, I was clueless.
But wait. I'd learned everything a young lady was supposed to in her years of growing up with a mother and father. Things like cleaning, cooking, helping out with my siblings, and being a good student, daughter, friend. I'd even put up with all the madness teens have to put up with and never speak about.
That was until I had my first child and everything changed, and I saw myself for who I really was. An amateur. A young nineteen-year-old kid trying to be my son's mother, and my husband's wife. Be different and do things better than my mom.
And in the beginning, I was different. I was a better mother and wife because I had found that balance. The thing she couldn't. I mean I was firm with my children but loving and wiser.
Never let your kids see me sweat. I had the formula... that fitted key as that kept them out of my adult madness. Never showed off my adult tantrums in their presence. I'd even gave them fewer chores, less of the momma stare; you know that look that speaks louder than any belt ever could. I had even tossed in conversations, and laughter, and time.
My nurturing side... that side of mothering my mother couldn't give to me nor any of my six other siblings, not because she didn't want too, but because she didn't know how because she hadn't learned it from her mom, who hadn't been taught to by her mom.
So you see the deli ma. The cycle.
Well, I can tell you that I did do it differently than my mother. One handsome son and two gorgeous daughters, later. And I can say that my experience has been one hell of a journey. Smooth roads, driven up, up, up by roller coasters without doors, and a whole lot of twist and screwy, uncharted territories along the way.
And now my babies are all grown up, and they've no dought found their way. Although during their way out; meaning out of the house, they've kindly and lovingly informed me of all the mistakes as their mother that I've made along my way.
And to think I'd thought that I'd done it all so much better than my mom.
But I must admit, they were three bold kids. Why my husband and I had preached that voicing their opinion was important was beyond me. However, I had agreed with some things, although done very cautiously.  Had even found myself using the momma stare of which I'd swore to never, ever use on my children.
But I listened while biting my lip and grinding away at my teeth. But I was not going to allow them; meaning my three ungrateful children to throw poisonous darts at me, not after all my husband and I had done for them, had been through just to get them to where they were.

However. After all the disagreements, the tense faces, my stubbornness, and ME, slowly breaking away at the momma wall,  I can say I learned a thing or two from my beautiful, smart children.
I'd even realized that what happened in my home as a child; that place I couldn't wait to leave. Tap my shoes three times and wish it all way, was not at all a reason to want to leave. Yes, there were lots of mistakes. Lots of things that could have been better. But as mother's we do our best. And sometimes, no matter how much of our best we think we're doing...it can go either way. There is no magic. We are the magic. And if we live right. See our children.  Do right by them so that they do right by their kids. That is the magic. And we can live with that.

Happy you, happy life, happy everyone else

Live, Laugh, Breathe

Hey, guys! Take a good look at that photo above...

We all know how fast life whooshes us along within the blink of an eye. We can sort of forget, or maybe lose ourselves in all the chaos of being a wife, a mother, a daughter, an employee if you're like me and still work outside of writing. But I realize no matter my work at home, at work, other than home, I must make and take out time for myself. Time to laugh and dance and breathe. Without me, there's no story that only I can write. And besides...living is writing

Live life.

Behind the Novel

Hello, guys. I've been doing some heavy thinking. Mostly about my writing. Who am I as a writer? Why write? Are the stories that I write even worth the paper they're printed on? And most importantly, is my writing, intriguing to my readers? Well. A week ago, I met a young lady in the supermarket. She seemed to be a very sweet girl and being the extroverted person that I am; outside of writing...we sparked up a conversation, which leads her to this, " So sort of stories do you write, and what are you working on right now?" I cringed as always, although I felt good about my present story. Still, I felt my heartbeat thump against my chest. But give or take a few mental breaths: I was okay. So I gave her a brief synopsis into the world of four women, a dark secret and a gun that leads one of them to her death. Her eyes widened. Her face sort of dropped, and she seemed a bit sad, maybe disappointed. At that point, I felt awful, uninspired to complete such novel that could put my reader into such a state. But then I think I smiled, which lead to her smiling too. She then asked the reason I'd decided to write such a dark story, and at first, I didn't think I had an answer. So, I just looked at her; not sure any answer I gave after the look on her face from earlier, would make any sense, or difference to her. But then I decided, honesty was the best policy. Maybe my reason for writing a dark story will offend many of my readers. Maybe it would resonate too close to home for some. But I'm a writer. And as a writer, the stories I write may not always be a happily ever after one. The truth sometimes hurts, and I've learned that first hand. Families don't always find that silver lining or notice how beautiful a rainbow is after a hard rain.
So now you'll read my story. 'String of Pearls.'  A suspenseful, women's Literary novel and take from it what you will. But just remember. Sometimes family's are broken. Sometimes they're able to work through the hard times and find that silver lining. However, the question I leave with you is. Can or will the four women in my novel: Jewels, Diamond, Treasure and Fanny: be able to?

And remember...Live life

Daughters

There's a truth behind everything. In life...a daughter will only know and do what her mother teaches. She will eventually come into her own. She will find love. Maybe even happiness, that nine-letter word that radiates beyond pages of love stories. Throughout her life, she will get under her mother's skin. She will bring tears to her mother's eyes. She will shout words of hate. And someday sooner than later, she will see the world through her own eyes. But from the day of her birth, until the day of her death...she will forever be her mother's replica...
So Mothers...I say to you...laugh with your little girl, dance with your baby, and share those moments as if they were the last because no matter what you think she may have done, or not done...She is forever your daughter.

Another Bloomin' Writer's Conference

Hey, guys! Just a need to share.

Judy Conibear, president of The Inland Empire California Writer's Group, I must say, did a wonderful job hosting 'Another Bloomin' Writer's Conference'. She moved the day along, smoothly, on time and with great poise. The day was kicked into gear with a great Taco Lunch, and the first guest speaker--Paula Priamos, author of 'The Shyster's Daughter (a memoir) set the bar high. Paula was not only awesome, but very well organized and informative on the information as to how to become a published author, She answered a lot of great questions from the audience of authors that have already published, and those writers looking to become published in the near future. And of course the mood and energy in the room didn't stop there. Martin Lastrapes, one of Amazon's number one best selling author's, kept  that momentum going with his knowledge on writing and promotion. And those were only two, to name a few of the wonderful events going on that day. For the writer who struggles with, or is just a bit rusty on pitching there book, or just in need to get a better grasp on it, for that big day that they are in front of an agent, or whether merely just for practice in front of of an audience, there was that, timed, three minute pitch session. To be honest, there was something for everyone.

So to sum-up...Another Bloomin' Writer's Conference was awesome! And as they say  Be Ready...Don't Get Ready...

Happy reading and happy writing...

Changing Lives One Book At A Time

In all reality... authors change lives. Whether through twisted minds, intelligent minds, revengeful minds or just very imaginative minds, an author, or should I say a damn good author, will keep you turning pages, forgetting to feed the kids, and screaming or tossing your book from a window, only to run right out into blizzard to retain it. For me, as an author, I strive to entertain. And hopefully, leave a lesson or two along the way.

We write for ourselves to be totally honest with you. We want nothing less than what you as a reader wants. To feel that rush of adrenaline behind the pages of love stories, the heart pounding thrill behind a well written thriller, and who did what, to who, in a perfect murder mystery novel. And that is what an author looks for in every book he or she writes.

Happy reading... and have a safe, and wonderful Easter this 2015
From my family of happy people and readers, to yours...

What Makes a Great Author?

The art of being a great author apposed to just a good writer is to know first and far most, who you are, whether or not you're equipped to take on the journey, and making sure that you have an experts understanding for your craft.

They say anyone can write a book. They say anyone can jot down words on a piece of paper or move there fingers along a laptop or computer.

Well I say, yes...that is true. Any child, teenager, adult, or maybe even the loved family pet can hit the keys of a laptop if trained well.

But here's where such comments fall short of truth or should I say reality, and are to me, ignorant ( lacking in knowledge or training). As an author, writer, whichever you may chose on your literary journey, you must like yourself, enjoy being with yourself, as writing consumes a lot of your daily life, requiring that you spend much of your time alone. You must be highly creative, imaginative, and maybe even a little bonkers depending on your genre. You must seek out and join critique groups, and writers groups that can help you to see the small things in your writing that you may not, or may have missed as our minds and eyes as we all know can limited our ability to see past what we hear or read while editing our own work. To benefit, or have even the slightest success, a writer/author must research their genre. See who's the big cheese on the best seller list; read some great books; not to plagiarize, but to see what's selling and what makes it sell. Read, learn and make what works for them, work for you.

With all that being said...a great author is the writer willing to do whatever it takes to walk the literary journey.

Don't get ready...be ready...

Authors & Readers

February!
What a great time of year to connect. Love is in the air, creativity is flourishing and great books are everywhere. That time of year for giving, bring a bit of joy to readers. Maybe a diamond ring from a lover, or that perfect love song to reignite that spark you once loved. But no matter what kind of LOVE surrounds you, makes your heart thrive... make it a memory you can live with and for.

Happy Valentines Day, guys!  Keep love in your hearts and a book at hand.

And always remember to live life

Are You Writing?

Well, I hope all of you writers have had an awesome 2014 thus far. And now the year has begun. 2015...whoop, whoop!!
Time to move on to bigger and better books. Make positive goals and keep reachable expectations for the sky is the limit. All you need is a laptop, a great imagination and a little time. Just remember...that road to success is never easy, nor reachable if you don't do the work. Never write for money. Never make excuses. Never say to yourself 'tomorrow'. Writing takes a lot of work so you have to love it. So never write for someone else. Never write for money. Write because you love it.  2015 is your year.  Remember; you are the author, and only you can tell your stories.

Responsiblity

Within the last hour, it was reported that Robin Williams, now age 63, and one the most warmest, funniest, house-hold comedians in the world has died. Confirmation: death not an accident. Also confirmed...his choice. A choice by suicide. A choice that I myself will never understand. But have not walked in his shoes. So I will not judge. However, I am a strong believer in one being responsible. Responsible being one of the most feared, neglected yet important words in our dictionary. I know life can bring enormous pain, suffering, anger, burdens and even some deeply rooted hate. It can even bring grief. And sometimes it can bring so much grief it weigh so deep we feel as if we're drowning, no way out, no relief in sight. But it is all still up to us--the individual to find that surface, paddle our way back. It will be difficult. It will seem impossible. But when has anything worth living for, been easy? I am so overwhelmed with the death of Robin Williams. This one, I can honestly say, I never saw coming. I didn't know him personally, but I truly feel as if I had. Through all his funny years.  Depression was his downfall. How he handled that depression was his choice, and I pray that he has found peace, although many will argue that he could not have. Another topic. However, HAPPINESS was the key. A key he unfortunately lost along the way to fortune and fame. But please know... happiness isn't hiding behind any door, or around any corner. It's not a secret, meant for only a few. It's a choice that God has given us freely, and lovingly, and HE wants us all to have it.
My heart goes out to Robin Williams' family and I pray that they may find the HAPPINESS that he could not.
Happiness is a RESPONSIBLE choice. Make the choice. Chose to be happy over all else. It's God's gift to ALL...

Time

Today I want to blog about TIME. What a subject.  As an author, mother, wife, friend, sister, nurse, teacher, housekeeper, driver, the list can go, on and on...
I'd like to take this moment to breathe. Inhale this moment. Listen to the sounds around me. Life ain't no joke. It don't come with bells and whistles, and there ain't nobody other than me that has to walk in my shoes. They can admire them. Hate them. But walk in them...I think not. Every morning I get out of bed feeling energized and ready to conquer the day; the world, and before I've barely had a chance to pour my first cup of coffee, I'm already exhausted just thinking about all the conquering I didn't accomplish the day before, and TIME is already not on my side. But then I put on my big girl panties and grasp hold of the fact that I' responsible for what get put out today, and I'm miraculously cured. A blogger's, blogs. An author writes. A teacher's teaches. An agents,--well. An agent makes things happened. They move a writer closer to what can be publication. The big times. The calls. The Best Seller list. Well, hopefully you all get the picture. Regardless, of our positions, WE must ALL take the time to make TIME. Nothing happens without Time...

Happy reading...

Holiday bliss and the Aftermath

Don't you just love the holiday season? They are each filled with family, friends, holiday gestures, and beautiful trinkets... We spend days or months preparing. We're filled with a piece of that holiday within, and for many of us, it shows outwardly. We bring out our best parts of that holiday and we put out our best behavior. For many of us, who we are follows us all year long and to me, that's the best blessing and part of us, we can give to anyone. But then--the holiday is over. Family's gone back to normal. Friend's trickle in. The routine of our everyday life slowly, grows again. We put away those beautiful trinkets that we'd spent days, weeks, or months preparing and the house quickly takes on its normal form. But even though the holidays are sparingly and we are filled with the joy of them--sparingly; they always, always, come.

Happy reading  guys! Remember--knowledge is Power...reading is a tool...what you take from it...is life's lesson and your strength for life

Revolving Doors?

In todays ever changing world, that revolving door of Traditional Publishing and Self-Publishing seems to hover annoyingly above our heads. And although I have no problem with either, I must be honest, I mean lets face it (traditional publishing is a headache.). Now don't misquote that, or take it too far out of context. I would love to publish my novel the traditional way, but who am I kidding? Sure not me.  I man it's really hard. And when you've invested so much time in your sweet darling (book), what? You want it to find readers. But Traditional Publishing is exhausting. First, you have to get in the door. Then if you book or should I say, your voice, meaning your style of writing is worth the time...you must go through a list of what is and what is not acceptable, depending the genre. Which is another topic all in itself. Now right now you probably exhausted just reading. I know. Anyway, then there's the look at word count. Maybe your book is too long and needs to be cut-down for acceptance. Or maybe your voice is coming off too strong and needs to be turned down a notch, and you need to add another one-hundred words. Which ever the reason...its tuff.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am willing to work with an editor and work hard for my book. Put my best foot forward. But in the world of Revolving Doors (Traditional or Self-Publishing)...which is really best? I say, go for what works for you. What do you say?

Lacking Inspiration?

As an author, inspiration is what compels our fingers to go tap, tap on laptops, and writers where it should be: dormant.  Without inspiration we're just wishers, sitting behind a computer, waiting for something worth writing to show up.  But all is not lost. Lacking inspiration is normal. Finding it, or and keeping it, key. But that's okay because its out there. And moving is how you'll find and keep the key. So, go on. Take a trip. Go shopping. Watch a movie. Go out to a movie. Just get out and do something. There's so much out there that you haven't seen all because you were stuck behind your computer trying to inspire yourself.  Look to others for your inspiration. Trust me, it's there. Now get inspired!!! Be your own inspiration!!! Do inspirational things!!!

A Good Editor

I've just finished reading another one of Rachelle Gardner's interesting and very informative blogs entitled ' Trust Me, You Need a Good Editor', and as always, her blog pulls me in,  gets me to thinking. But as much as her blogs make me think, they also make me ask questions, all of which I need answers. I read blogs from editors, and blog comments from writers to editors. Which editors are true to editing, and which are not so good. I have finished my novel A String of Pearls, and I am looking for a good editor. After reading Rachelle's blog as well as the comments left by some really interesting bloggers', and writers', I must tell you it was all very informative, however it left me with fears I could do without, but hey, sometimes fear's a good thing.
There are as many editors out there, as there are probably writers, and I am not sure which is the best fit for me. As a writer...we pull up bio's on editors, we research them, and even read comments about them...word for word. But every writer's needs is different: money being the giant elephant in the room, especially when your not sure the editor your choosing will deliver on the promise. And whose to say that the editor chosen that began your edit, will still be the right fit as the edit of the story continues. Seems to me, after reading some of the comments by many writer's of which the editor at some point begins to look at their work through their own eyes and not the writer's. I believe that to be true as I at one point had that same experience. It was just a sample edit, but the editor truly didn't get my character, meaning this particular character was from the south; she spoke with broken English, or slang, of which the editor didn't like, or maybe had felt she could have been better understood. Maybe. But to me...understanding a character and changing who they are, is totally different.
Don't get me wrong... I do believe that every writer should invest in a good edit. Me for one. But here's the question: who, which one? And the most important question of the day: Are they truly qualified to fit my style? Do they get me at all?

Thanks for reading...
